Entrance Exam: Structure

The specific entrance exam to the Degree in Higher Artistic Education in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage at the ESCRBC will be common to all specialties and will consist of 2 exercises:

  • The first exercise, written and of a theoretical nature, will have a maximum duration of 2 hours. It will deal with the contents of one of the following subjects of the baccalaureate: History of Art, Physics, Chemistry or Biology.The first exercise, written and of a theoretical nature, will have a maximum duration of 2 hours. The exercise will present ten topics: four of Art History, two of Physics, two of Chemistry and two of Biology. From all of them, the candidate will choose one. Together with the development of the topic, an outline of the content and a final summary highlighting the main conclusions or concepts of the topic will be included. In addition to specific knowledge, this exercise will assess the relationship of this knowledge with general or multidisciplinary knowledge, the appropriate use of language, the ability to synthesize and general training related to the field of cultural property.

This first exercise will be scored from 0 to 10. Its grade will be expressed with two decimal places rounded to the nearest hundredth and, in case of equidistance, to the higher one. The first exercise will be considered passed when the grade obtained is equal to or higher than 5 points.

  • The second exercise, of a practical nature, will have a maximum duration of 6 hours and will consist of the following parts:
    1. Practical aptitude. It will consist of a practical exercise in which the specific skills required for the studies of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage will be assessed. Dexterity, precision and care in the performance of the work will be valued. The maximum duration of the practical aptitude exercise will be 2 hours.
    2. Color. It will consist of an exercise on the representation of color. The correct application of the techniques used and the degree of understanding of the values and qualities of color will be considered. The maximum duration of the color exercise will be 2 hours.
    3. Drawing. It will consist of the realization of a drawing from life with a mimetic approach from an exempt and inanimate model. The fidelity in the representation, the quality of the graphics, the precision and the finish of the work will be valued. The maximum duration of the drawing exercise will be 4 hours.

Each of the parts of the second exercise will be graded from 0 to 10 points. The grade of the second exercise will be the arithmetic mean of the scores obtained in its parts and will be expressed with 2 decimal places rounded to the nearest hundredth and, in case of equidistance, to the higher one. The second exercise will be considered passed when the mark thus obtained is equal to or higher than 5 points.

To pass the specific entrance exam it will be necessary to pass the 2 exercises. The final grade of the specific entrance exam will be the weighted average of the grades obtained in both, with the first exercise being valued at 40% and the second at 60%. Said final grade will be expressed in numerical terms, using a scale from zero to ten, with 2 decimal places, rounded to the nearest hundredth and, in case of equidistance, to the higher one. A final grade of 5 or higher will be required to pass the entrance exam.
